The purpose of the present study is to examine the contribution of the vocational and technical education system on employment and economic growth as well as the obstacles related with employment and economic growth within the context of vocational and technical education based on the opinions of school administrators and teachers who represent the school aspect of the vocational and technical education system and the sector representatives who are the shareholders of the labor market. The participants of the study carried out based on a qualitative descriptive model consisted of 10 school administrators and 10 teachers working at vocational and technical high schools in Gaziantep province along with 10 representatives from public/private establishments that are active in Gaziantep province. Study data were acquired via semi-structured interviews. The study data were analyzed using the content analysis method. According to the findings of the study, sector representatives have more negative opinions on the sufficiency of the contributions of the vocational and technical education system to economic growth. It has been understood that teachers, school administrators and sector representatives evaluate the obstacles related to employment and economic growth with regard to vocational and technical education as based on the vocational and technical education system and as based on labor markets. It is suggested based on the findings of the study that needs analyses should be carried out on the qualifications of semi-skilled workers needed by the labor market when deciding on the disciplines to be opened in vocational and technical education institutions.
