CONVERGENCE ANALYSIS IN FINANCIAL AND REAL SECTORS OF TURKISH ECONOMY

Öz

Convergence is analyzed on the basis of cost efficiencies in financial and real sectors, and assesses efficiency of resource use. In this way, it is aimed to analyze whether the cost efficiency values converge in financial and real sectors. As regards, we use the cost efficiency values of financial sector including 21 banks and of real sectors including 154 firms in Turkey for the period of 2005-2013, and we analyze beta and sigma convergence for the financial and real sectors. The coefficients of ( , –1) and , –1 for both sectors are always negative and statistically significant at conventional levels, it suggests that there are both beta convergence and sigma convergence in cost efficiency. The results of beta convergence suggest that the least efficient decision-making unit at the beginning of the sample period have caught up the most efficient decision-making unit in cost efficiency. The results of sigma convergence also suggest that the dispersion of the mean for the cost efficiency scores of the financial and real sectors declined over the sample period

TÜRKİYE EKONOMİSİNDE REEL VE FİNANSAL SEKTÖRE YÖNELİK YAKINSAMA ANALİZİ

Öz

Finansal ve reel sektörlerin maliyet etkinliklerine dayalı olarak analiz edilen yakınsama, sektör içinde kaynakların etkin kullanımını vermektedir. Bu çalışmanın ana amacı, finansal ve reel sektörün etkinlik değerlerinin kendi içinde yakınsama gösterip göstermediğini analiz etmektir. Bu bağlamda, Türkiye ekonomisi için 2005-2013 dönemi bağlamında; 21 bankanın içerildiği finansal sektörün ve 154 firmanın içerildiği reel sektörün maliyet etkinliği değerleri kullanılmış ve beta ve sigma yakınsama analizleri yapılmıştır. Her iki sektör için de ( , –1) ve , –1 katsayıları istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ve negatif çıkmıştır ve maliyet etkinliği ölçütü üzerinden beta ve sigma yakınsamalarının olduğu görülmektedir. Beta yakınsaması sonuçlarından, başlangıç etkinlik düzeyi düşük olan karar alma biriminden, başlangıç etkinlik düzeyi yüksek olan karar alma birimine doğru bir yakınsama gerçekleştiği anlaşılmaktadır. Beta yakınsaması sonuçlarını destekler nitelikteki sigma yakınsaması sonuçları, yine her iki sektörün maliyet etkinliği düzeylerinde ortalamadan sapmanın azaldığını göstermektedir
