There has been an increasing interest from the researchers and policy makers in economic and cultural effects of the people visiting other countries in an increasing rate during the last half century. In this context, in order to carry out economic development, tourism has become one of the priority sectors which provides for the shortage of foreign exchange, creates new income and increases the employment possibilities in developing countries. The aim of this article is to deal with the contribution of the tourism sector to the economy, to see the place of the country in the world by comparing with the other countries in terms of this sector and to econometrically determine the factors effecting investment, income and the number of tourists coming to Turkey
