Examining the Paternal Function in Obsessional Structure from Lacanian Perspective

Based on Freud’s article on Negation (2010/1925), Lacan interpreted three psychic structures (psychosis, perversion, and neurosis) as forms of negation through the paternal function. Lacan stated that the formation of the psychic structures is based on oedipal relations and oedipal relations are the representation of the subject’s relations with the paternal function. Thus, the dynamic of the subject’s transition from being a phallus to having a phallus takes place through the paternal function. Emphasizing the distinctions between real, imaginary, and symbolic father, Lacan suggested that the father figure involved in the oedipal process is imaginary. The structural activation of the symbolic father occurs with the effect of the signifier and the signifier effect occurs through the paternal function. In object relations seminar, using the concept of imaginary reciprocity regarding the obsessive structure, Lacan mentioned obsessive’s identification with a significant object (mother). This identification is on the imaginary axis in the L schema. In order to protect the Other, the place where the obsessive’s unconscious subject positions are in the spectator position next to the Other on the symbolic axis through the symbolic father function. Hence, the father function is the regulator of the subject’s phantasmatic relationships with the significant object. In this study, Lacan’s views on obsessional structure and the paternal function were examined and the case of Mr. N. who was thought to have obsessional structure had been discussed in the context of his psychic structure and his psychic structural relations with the paternal function.

Obsesyonel Yapıda Baba İşlevinin Lacanyen Açıdan İncelenmesi

Öz

Freud’un (2010/1925) Olumsuzlama (Negation) makalesinden yola çıkarak üç temel ruhsal yapıyı (psikotik, pervert/sapkın ve nevrotik) olumsuzlamanın üç biçimi olarak yorumlayan Lacan, bu ruhsal yapıları baba işlevi (paternal function) üzerinden açıklamıştır. Ruhsal yapının oluşumunun ödipal ilişkilere dayandığını ve ödipal ilişkilerin, öznenin baba işleviyle olan ilişkisinin bir temsili olduğunu ve böylece öznenin fallus olmaktan fallus sahibi olmaya geçiş dinamiğinin baba işlevi üzerinden gerçekleştiğini belirtmiştir. Bu noktada gerçek, imgesel ve simgesel baba ayrımları üzerinde durarak ödipal süreçte devreye giren baba figürünün imgesel olduğunu belirten Lacan, simgesel babanın yapısal olarak devreye girmesinin ise tamamen simgesel veya dil üzerinden fallik gösterenin (phallic signifier) etkisiyle gerçekleştiğini ve fallik gösteren etkisinin, baba işlevi üzerinden gerçekleştiğini ifade etmiştir. Lacan, nesne ilişkileri seminerinde, obsesyonel yapıyı L şeması üzerinde imgesel karşılık (imaginary reciprocity) kavramını kullanarak açıklamış ve böylece obsesifin imgesel düzeyde kendisi için önemli olan nesne konumundaki anne ile özdeşleştiğini belirtmiştir. Lacan’a göre, Başka’nın arzusunu reddeden obsesif aynı zamanda Başka’nın kastrasyonunu reddetmiş olur. Böylece L şemasında obsesifin kendisi için önemli olan nesne ile özdeşleşimi imgesel eksende imgesel baba figürü üzerinden gerçekleşir. Obsesyonel yapıdaki bilinçdışı özne ise L şemasında simgesel eksende Başka’yı korumak için Başka’nın konumlandığı yerde seyirci konumundadır. Dolayısıyla, obsesifin imgesel eksende kendisi için önemli olan nesneyle olan fantazmatik ilişkisinin düzenleyicisi konumundaki fallusun yeniden konumlanabilmesi, imgesel baba üzerinden değil; simgesel baba işlevi yoluyla sağlanabilecektir. Bu çalışmada, Lacan’ın obsesyonel yapı ve baba işlevi hakkındaki görüşleri ilgili literatür çerçevesinde ele alınmış ve obsesyonel yapılanması olduğu düşünülen N. Bey vakası, ruhsal yapı ve baba işleviyle olan ilişkisi bağlamında incelenerek tartışılmıştır.
