Eskiz Yaparken Görsel ve Sözel Düşünmenin Yaratıcılığa Etkisinin İncelenmesi

Öz

Bir tasarlama ve temsil aracı olarak eskiz, problemlere çözümler üretmeye dayanan tasarlama eyleminde yaratıcı düşünmeyi teşvik ederek tasarımcıyı yönlendiren önemli bir yardımcıdır. Hızlı üretilebilir, esnek ve yenilikçi yapısıyla, fikirleri dışsallaştırmayı ve başkalarıyla fikir alışverişini kolaylaştıran karakteriyle mimari tasarımda da sıklıkla başvurulan bir aracıdır. Eskizin üretim sürecinde genellikle görsel düşünmeden yararlanılsa da bu sürecin sözel düşünmeyle de beslenmesinin potansiyellerinin sorgulanması önem taşımaktadır. Çalışmada, eskiz yaparken görsel ile sözel düşünmenin birlikte çalışmasının ve bilişsel düzeyde gelişen yatay ve düşey dönüşümlerin öğrencinin yaratıcılığına etkilerini irdelemek amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda mimarlık lisans öğrencilerine yönelik bir atölye çalışması düzenlenmiş olup eskiz yapma ve metin yazmaya dayanan bu atölyenin çıktılarının değerlendirilmesi ve öğrencilerin atölye deneyimlerine dair raporları üzerinden yapılan protokol analizi, çalışmanın yöntemini oluşturmaktadır. Eskizin yazma ve kavramsal düşünmeyle desteklenmesinin öğrencinin farklı fikirlere geçiş yapmasını kolaylaştırdığı, tek bir kavrama odaklanmak yerine kavramlar birbirleriyle ilişkili halde düşünülmeye başlandığında yaratıcı yaklaşımların daha kolay geliştiği görülmüştür. Çalışmanın bulguları, mimarlık eğitiminde eskizin sunum aracı kimliğinin yanı sıra düşünsel yönünün ve yazma etkinliği ile olan ilişkisinin potansiyelleri üzerine öğrencilere farkındalık kazandırılmasının büyük bir önem taşıdığını ortaya koymaktadır.

Examining the Effect of Visual and Verbal Thinking on Creativity While Sketching

Öz

Sketching, as a design and representation tool, is an important supporter that guides the designer by encouraging creative thinking in the act of design, where solutions to problems are produced. Sketches are frequently used in architectural design because they are fast to produce, flexible and innovative, making it easier to externalize and exchange ideas. Although visual thinking is generally used in the sketching process, it is important to question the potential of feeding this process with verbal thinking. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of visual and verbal thinking working together while sketching and the horizontal and vertical transformations that develop at the cognitive level on the student's creativity. For this purpose, a workshop which is based on sketching and text writing was organized for undergraduate architecture students. The method of the study consists of the evaluation of the outcomes of this workshop and a protocol analysis made on the students' reports regarding their workshop experiences. It has been observed that supporting sketching with writing and conceptual thinking makes it easier for students to transition to different ideas, and creative approaches develop more easily when concepts are considered in relation to each other rather than focusing on a single concept. The findings of the study reveal that it is of great importance to raise awareness among students about the potential of the sketch's intellectual aspect and its relationship with writing activity as well as its identity as a presentation tool in architectural education.
