Quest for Flexible Alliance in Eastern Mediterranean: Greece, Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and Israel Case

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 9 Sayı: 2, 149 - 170, 29.12.2025

Öz

The different visions in Turkey’s and Israel’s foreign policy became evident during the Hamas-Israel conflict in Gaza in 2009 and reached its peak with the attack on the Mavi Marmara vessel. Realizing the deterioration in bilateral relations, Israeli policy makers, without waiting for the relations to be completely severed, in 2009, in order to contain Turkey, decided to improve Israel’s relations with Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and to establish a flexible alliance with them. Flexible alliance’s, aim was to contain Türkiye and to controll the energy resources discovered in the region.
