Updated Morphology, Distribution and Conservation Status of Endemic Tragopogon subacaulis O.Schwarz (Çobanyemi) / Asteraceae, Cichorieae

Tragopogon subacaulis O. Schwarz (Çobanyemi) was first described in 1934 by the German botanist Otto Anton Karl Schwarz, who also worked at the Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute. The species was originally identified based on fruiting specimens lacking flowers, collected from Mount Spil (Manisa). After its initial description, the species received little attention for many years. However, it was revisited as part of a comprehensive revision of the Tragopogon species in Türkiye. In this study, numerous morphological unknown characteristics—particularly those related to the flower and achene—were documented in detail, and the species description was significantly expanded. Additionally, a diagnostic key was prepared for purple-flowered Tragopogon species in Türkiye. The current distribution of T. subacaulis was mapped based on herbarium records and field observations, and potential distribution areas were modeled using bioclimatic data with Maxent software. Given its limited distribution, confined to the Nif and Spil Mountains in the provinces of İzmir and Manisa, the global conservation status of this endemic species was re-evaluated in light of the newly obtained data and field findings.

Endemik Çobanyemi (Tragopogon subacaulis O.Schwarz / Asteraceae, Cichorieae) Türünün Güncellenmiş Morfolojisi, Yayılışı ve Koruma Durumu

Öz

Tragopogon subacaulis O. Schwarz (Çobanyemi) türü ilk kez Bornova Zirai Mücadele Araştırma Enstitüsü’nde de çalışmış Alman botanikçi Otto Anton Karl Schwarz tarafından 1934 yılında Spil Dağından (Manisa) toplanan çiçeklenme dönemi geçmiş bir örneğe dayalı olarak tanımlanmıştır. Tanıtımı yapıldıktan sonra uzun bir süre ihmal edilen bu tür ile ilgili ayrıntılı bilgiler ülkemiz Tragopogon türlerinin revizyonunun yapıldığı bir çalışma ile yeniden gün yüzüne çıkarılmıştır. Söz konusu bu çalışma ile türün çiçek ve meyve başta olmak üzere birçok eksik morfolojik özellikleri kapsamlı şekilde tespit edilerek genişletilmiş betimi ve mor çiçekli Türkiye Tragopogon türleri için yeni bir teşhis anahtarı hazırlanmıştır. Ayrıca herbaryum ziyaretleri ve arazi çalışmalarına dayalı türün güncel yayılış alanları, Maxent programı yardımıyla farklı biyoiklimsel veriler kullanılarak muhtemel yayılış alanları da tespit edilerek bu çalışmada verilmiştir. Manisa ve İzmir illerinde, birbirine yakın Spil ve Nif dağlarında yetişen, yayılışı görece dar olan bu endemik türün, küresel ölçekteki tehdit durumu (koruma statüsü) yeni veriler ve saha gözlemleri ışığında ayrıca yeniden değerlendirilmiştir.
