Rediscovery of the Endemic Polygonum cappadocicum (Özge Madımak) Species After Decades in Sivas, Türkiye

Öz

Polygonum cappadocicum Boiss. & Balansa (özge madımak), is an endemic species described to the scientific community by Pierre Edmond Boissier in 1859 from Kayseri Province, Türkiye. Despite studies conducted by various researchers in the type locality and its surroundings, this species had not been observed for many years; however, a new population was discovered during field surveys carried out in the province of Sivas. Sufficient material was collected from this newly discovered population to conduct detailed morphological, palynological, and molecular studies. The collected specimens were prepared as herbarium vouchers and deposited in the Herbaria of the Department of Biology, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, and Gazi University for preservation. Through detailed morphological examinations conducted on the collected specimens, and the type materials preserved in herbaria G and P, the major deficiencies present in the original description of the species have been resolved. In addition, all morphological characteristics of the taxon were re-evaluated, and an expanded description, an identification key, and a reassessment of its global conservation status were provided.

Uzun Yıllardır Bulunamayan Endemik Özge Madımak (Polygonum cappadocicum Boiss. & Balansa) Türünün Sivas İlinden Yeniden Keşfi

Öz

Polygonum cappadocicum Boiss. & Balansa (özge madımak), Pierre Edmond Boissier tarafından 1859 yılında Kayseri ilinden bilim dünyasına tanıtılmış endemik bir türdür. Farklı araştırıcıların tip alanı ve çevresinde yaptıkları çalışmalara rağmen uzun yıllardır izine rastlanamayan bu türe ait yeni bir popülasyona Sivas ilinde yapılan saha çalışması sırasında rastlanılmıştır. Tespit edilen bu yeni popülasyondan detaylı morfolojik, palinolojik ve moleküler çalışmalar yapmak üzere yeterli örnek toplanmıştır. Toplanan bu örnekler herbaryum örneği haline getirilerek Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Üniversitesi Biyoloji Bölümü ve Gazi Üniversitesi Herbaryumlarında koruma altına alınmıştır. Toplanan örnekler ile G ve P herbaryumlarında saklanan tip örnekleri üzerinde yapılan ayrıntılı morfolojik incelemeler ile türün betiminde var olan önemli eksiklikler giderilmiştir. Ayrıca türün tüm morfolojik özellikleri yeniden gözden geçirilerek genişletilmiş bir betimi ve teşhis anahtarı verilmiş olup küresel ölçekteki tehdit durumu yeniden değerlendirilmiştir.
