Relationship between Nomophobia Level and School Success among University Students

Öz

Objective: This study aimed to determine any possible relationship between school success and nomophobia level among the university students.
Method: This cross-sectional and descriptive type study was conducted during June 1-15, 2019 in the health vocational school of a state university located in Zonguldak city. Study data were collected by Student Information Form and Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q).
Results: Nomophobia level was mild in 25.8%, moderate in 54.2% and severe in 19.8% of the students. Significant differences were found between some subscales and mean overall scale scores of the questionnaire based on the variables such as gender, daily frequency of checking smartphones, state of having a charger besides and checking the smartphone as soon as waking up.
Conclusion: No significant diferences were found between Grade Point Average (GPA) of the students and their total and subscale scores from the questionnaire.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Nomofobi Düzeyleri İle Okul Başarısı Arasındaki İlişki

Öz

Amaç: Araştırma üniversite öğrencilerinde okul başarısı ile nomofobi düzeyleri arasında herhangi bir ilişkinin olup olmadığının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Araştırma, 1 Nisan-30 Nisan 2019 tarihleri arasında Zonguldak ilinde bulunan bir devlet üniversitesinin sağlık eğitimi veren meslek yüksekokulunda yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri Öğrenci Bilgi Formu ve Nomofobi Ölçeği (NMP-Q) ile toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %25.8’inin hafif düzeyde nomofobi, %54.2’sinin orta düzeyde nomofobi ve %19.8’inin aşırı düzeyde nomofobi seviyesine sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada cinsiyet, akıllı telefonu günlük kontrol etme sıklığı, şarj aletini yanında bulundurma durumu, uyanınca hemen akıllı telefonu kontrol etme değişkenlerine göre nomofobi ölçeğinin bazı alt boyutları ve genel toplam ölçek puan ortalamaları arasında anlamlı farklılık olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
Sonuç: Öğrencilerin genel akademik not ortalaması (GANO) değerleri ile nomofobi ölçeğinin toplam ve alt boyut puanları arasında anlamlı farklılık olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.
