In this study pulp was produced from wheat straw. KOH which is a strong base was used as an agent. In order to determine the individual effects of KOH agent, air and oxygen, many cookings were carried out. Experimental papers were produced from the pulp and their physical, optical and mechanical properties were investigated. Optimum conditions were determined by statistical analysis. Break-up length of the papers produced from the cooking of non air pressure loaded pulps was found higher than air pressure loaded ones. However the difference was not found significant at 5% confidence interval. Oxygen use instead of air increased the physical properties, decreased the kappa number and increased the whiteness value. Whiteness was decreased in non-pressured experiment compared to air, but increased with oxygen. Press opacity increased in non-pressure experiment compared to air but it was decreased with oxygen. The difference was found significant at 5% level. Because of these reasons, it can be said that oxygen is better bleach than air.
