This study aims to examine parental views on the importance of sports in the life of a special student with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who is studying at university. The parents of a student with ASD who has degrees in national sports competitions participated in the qualitative case study design. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analysed using qualitative content analysis. As a result of the analysis, three main themes were identified: the effects of sport on developmental areas, school life and family quality of life. The findings show that sport contributes to the social, physical and emotional development of the individual with ASD, positively affects school life and provides social support for parents. In conclusion, it was observed that parents' attitudes towards sport are critical for the participation of individuals with ASD in sport and the benefits they will derive from sport.
