Bibliometric Analysis of Indicator-Based Social Vulnerability Studies in terms of Disasters

Abstract

Vulnerability assessment conducted within the scope of disaster risk reduction can make significant contributions to protecting the economic structure and increasing disaster preparedness level of institutions by identifying deficiencies in data, information and resources. This study aims to identify the general framework and new research trends of indicator-based social vulnerability (SV) studies in terms of disasters. To this end, studies in the literature were examined using bibliometric methods. Within the scope of the study, 785 research articles published between 2003 and 2024 were accessed using the Web of Science database. The Bibliometrix R package was used to process and visualise the obtained data. The study findings are related to year, country, institution, author, number of citations, and keyword usage of articles. According to the study results, the United States is the country with most pablications and citations, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Colombia University are the universities with the most publications. Susan L. Cutter is the most cited author, and in recent years, SV research has focused on climate change, resilience, and flood risk management. The study results are expected to guide future research on SV.
