تركت
الإمبراطورية العثمانية بصمة واضحة على مدينة بيت المقدس خلال حكمها الذي امتد
لحوالي أربعة قرون، وخصوصا فيما يتعلق بالبنيات الأساسية للمدينة (الأسوار
والأبراج والقلاع والطرق وأسبلة الماء والتكايا والمدارس والمستشفيات والأسواق
وغيرها)، حتى أصبحت توصف بالمدينة العثمانية لكثرة ما خلفه الحكم العثماني من
انعكاسات اقتصادية واجتماعية وثقافية وأمنية إيجابية على مدى تاريخ المدينة
المقدسة الحديث والمعاصر، لا زلنا نلمس آثارها إلى حد الساعة. بحيث أسهم السلاطين
العثمانيون المتعاقبون -بفعل اهتمامهم الخاص بالمدينة- في
إعمارها وتطويرها على كافة الأصعدة، نتيجة المشاريع والميزانيات وكل الإمكانيات
المادية والبشرية التي رصدت لها على طول الفترة العثمانية.

The role of the Ottoman Empire in the reconstruction of the city of Bayt al-Maqdis and the development of its structures and facilities

The Ottoman Empire left a clear imprint on the
city of Bayt al-Maqdis during its four-century rule, especially with regard to
the city's infrastructure (walls, towers, citadels, roads, water fountains,
lodges, schools, hospitals, markets amongst others), until it became known as the Ottoman
city, due to the many economic, social and cultural positives impacts of the
Ottoman rule throughout the history of the Holy City until the contemporary
period, still felt to this very day. Successive Ottoman Sultans, through their
distinctive interest in the city, contributed to its reconstruction and
development at all levels.  This was a result
of the many projects and budgets allocated together with other material and
human resources allocated to the Holy City throughout the Ottoman period.
