The occurrence of various wastes indicates that many environmental risks may occur due to production activities in ready-mixed concrete plants. Analyzing and evaluating the environmental risks generated can produce solutions that minimize or eliminate the environmental impact of the ready-mixed concrete plants.
The aim of this study is to predetermine the environmental risks that may occur in ready-mixed concrete plants and to minimize the potential negative effects. The study was carried out on two different ready-mixed concrete plants located in Denizli and Adana. In both facilities, environmental risk factors were monitored monthly for 6 months. The plant visits were made between 01.11.2017 and 01.06.2018. These visits were conducted at least once a month, and in some special cases 2 or 3 times a month for more detailed observation. As a result of these investigations, environmental risk assessment was performed by using L type matrix method in both facilities. In the evaluation of risk, the ready-mixed concrete plant in Denizli province was named as facility-1, (T1) and the ready-mixed concrete plant in Adana was named as facility-2, (T2).
As a result of the risk assessments, environmental risks were lower in T1 where the environmental management system was implemented on the basis of ISO 14001. In addition to the existing measures implemented in T1, it has been determined that all environmental risks have decreased to a minimum level by applying the measures proposed as a result of environmental risk assessment. As a result of environmental risk assessment, it was observed that the unacceptable environmental risks of T2, are higher than T1, which is not implemented by the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
