Öz

After getting embroiled in World War I, Ottoman Empire fought against Russia, England and France along with Germany and Austria-Hungary. During the global war that centred in Europe, Muslim communities living under the rule of the then Russian and French territory were used against Central Powers which also included the Ottoman Empire. Turks and Northern African Muslims backed by Russia and France were captured by the German and Austria-Hungary side and were held in prison camps while fighting against Central Powers.
