Etik Beyan

It has been reported that symptoms of social media addiction can manifest as physical and emotional reactions, as well as psychological and interpersonal problems. This study was conducted to examine the effects of digital addiction on sleep, chronotype, healthy eating self-efficacy and physical activity self-efficacy in adolescents aged 9-18. This study was conducted with 1895 adolescents aged 9-18 studying in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Elazığ, Turkey. The questionnaire form consisted of demographic data and scales for chronotype, physical activity self-efficacy, healthy eating self-efficacy, sleep disturbance, and digital addiction. Of the adolescents participating in the study, 5.2% were morning people, 46.3% were intermediate, and 48.5% were evening people. Digital addiction was found to affect physical activity self-efficacy (p<0.001) and healthy eating self-efficacy (p<0.001). The introverted factors subscale of digital addiction was found to have a significant and positive effect on chronotype levels (p<0.01). The digital addiction scale subscales were found to have effects on sleep initiation and maintenance problems (p<0.001), sleep-disordered breathing (p<0.001), arousal reaction disorders (p<0.001), sleep-wake transition disorders (p<0.001), and excessive sleepiness disorders (p<0.001). Consequently, increased digital addiction had a negative impact on participants' physical activity self-efficacy, healthy eating self-efficacy, and sleep disorders.
