The effect of ultravıolet and ınfrared absorbıng polyethylene fılm to the progress of fungal dıseases of greenhouse tomato

Öz

This study was carried out in 1992 spring and autumn crop seasons in Antalya. Argus F1 tomato cultivars were grown in the spring crop season in a greenhouse covered with an ultraviolet+infrared-absorbing (UVA+IRA) polyethylene film (light transmittance 3% from 260 to 330 nm, and light transmittance 52 % in the visible region), and in a control greenhouse covered common agricultural (CA) polyethylene film. Early blight caused by Alternaria solani was seen in both greenhouses. At the and of the crop season maximum disease severity was 23,4 % in the UVA+IRA greenhouse and was 27.4 % in the CA greenhouse. In the autumn crop season, three tomato cultivars; Garanto F1, Dario F1 and Monado F1 were grown in a greenhouse covered with an ultraviolet-absorbing (UVA) polyethylene film (lower limit of transmission at 330 nm), in a greenhouse covered with an ultraviolet+infrared-absorbing (UVA+IRA) polyethylene film (light transmittance 3% from 260 to 330 nm, and light transmittance 52% in the visible region), and in a control  greenhouse covered common agricultural (CA) polyethylene film. The leaf mold caused by Fulvia fulva and early blight caused by Alternaria solani were seen in all greenhouses in this season. Garanto F1 variety is resistant to disease caused by Fulvia fulva. Disease severity of Dario F1 variety  was lower than that of Monado F1. Maximum disease severities for leaf mold were 21, 33 and 43 % in the UVA +IRA, UVA and CA greenhouses,  respectively, and for early blight were 3.7, 6.1 and 7.5% in the UVA, UVA+IRA and CA greenhouses, respectively. Monomolecular, Logistic and Gompertz models were used to estimate the apparent infection rate. Determination of coefficient (R2) from linear regression of transformed data, Gompertz model was chosen as best fit model to explain the disease progress curves.
