Acaricidal effect of <em>Capsicum annum </em>L. extracts on two-spotted spider mite <em>Tetranychus urticae</em> Koch (Arachnida: Tetranychidae)

Abstract

Two-spotted spider mite is a very serious pest worldwide, causing considerable damage to vegetables, flowers and fruit crops. Two-spotted spider mite is also an economic pest in Turkey. Lately, broad spectrum insecticides have been used to control two-spotted spider mite in Turkey, but chemical control is difficult mainly due to resistance to conventional pesticides. The application of plant extracts to control insects is an alternative control method. Many studies have been carried out about this subject in the last decades. The efficacy of pesticide extracted from Capsicum annum L. belonging to Solanaceae family was tested as an alternative insecticide agianst this pest.
The effects of extracts with ethanole obtained from Capsicum annum L. on two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) were investigated. Leaf dipping and direct leaf spraying methods were used in bioassays to determine the acaricid effect of the extract. Besides, ovisit and reproductive effects of extract were investigated Experiments were carried out using (3cm diameter) leaf disks of Phaseolus vulgaris L. The effects of four concentrations of extract %1, 3, 6, 12 were studied. All of experiments were repeated 10 times.
As a result of the investigation, the extract of %12 concentration showed the highest mortality in larvae, nymph and adult stages. The mortality of larvae, nymphs and adults at the same concentrations were 97%, 86% and 95%, respectively. There was a not significant difference on the mortality between leaf dipping and direct leaf spraying method when compared.
The 12% concentration of the Capsicum annum L. extract significantly reduced the reproductive capacity of females. The ovicidal effect of extract was not observed.

Acı biber (Capsicum annum L.) ekstraktının iki noktalı kırmızıörümcek, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Arachnida: Tetranychidae)’ye akarisit etkisi

Öz

İki noktalı kırmızıörümcek ülkemizde sebzeler, süs bitkileri, meyve ve pamuk gibi ürünlerde önemli bir zararlıdır. Zararlı ile mücadelede çok sayıda pestisit kullanılmaktadır. Kullanılan kimyasal pestisitlere dayanıklılık göstermesi nedeni ile zararlının mücadelesi oldukça güç olmaktadır. Zararlılar ile mücadelede bitkisel ekstraktların kullanımı kimyasal pestisitlere bir alternatif olarak görülmüştür ve son zamanlarda bu konuda birçok çalışma yapılmıştır. Solanaceaefamilyasına ait Capsicum annum L.bitkisinden elde edilen etanollü ekstraktın İki noktalı kırmızıörümcek üzerine etkisi kimyasal ilaçlara bir alternatif oluşturmak amacıyla araştırılmıştır. Ekstraktın akarisit etkisini belirlemek amacıyla, yaprak daldırma ve püskürtme olmak üzere iki farklı yöntem kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca ekstraktın yumurta verimi ve ovisit etkisi belirlenmiştir. Denemelerde besin olarak fasulye yaprak diskleri (3 cm çapında) kullanılmıştır. Ekstraktın %1, 3, 6, 12 olmak üzere dört farklı konsantrasyonu çalışılmıştır. Denemeler 10 tekerrürlü olarak yapılmıştır Sonuç olarak, larva, nimf ve ergin dönemlerinde en yüksek ölüm oranı ekstraktın % 12'lik konsantrasyonunda belirlenmiştir. Bu konsantrasyonda larva, nimf ve erginlerde belirlenen ölüm oranı göreceli olarak %97, %86 ve %95 olmuştur. Yaprak daldırma ve püskürtme yöntemleri arasında ölüm oranı bakımından önemli bir fark belirlenmemiştir. Aynı konsantrasyon erginlerde yumurta verimini önemli derecede azaltmıştır. Ekstraktın ovisidal etkisi bulunmamıştır.
