Safavids had deep influences on
Anatolia. However, the documents issued by the Safavids regarding this region
have not been sufficiently investigated and translated two decrees in Turkey.
In current article we studied and translated from Persian to Turkish by early
Safavid shahs on Akhlat and Adiljevaz. The originals of these decrees are kept
in the archive of Topkapı Palace Museum. The first decree, which dated 920 A.H.
/ 1514 A.D., issued by Shah Ismail I on tax relief for the residents of Akhlat
and Adiljevaz. The other is a decree by Shah Tahmasp I to the Ottoman ruler of
Adiljevaz Mustafa Bey, a son of Yularkıstı Sinan Pasha. It was written in 960
A.H. / 1553 A.D. Both of these documents are valuable sources for the study of
local history.
