Psychological Resilience and Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Among Nursing Students: A Cross-Sectional Study

Öz

Aim: The aim of this research is to determine the connection between psychological resilience and disaster response self-efficacy among nursing students in Turkey. Material and Method: This research was conducted as a descriptive, cross-sectional study involving 343 nursing students from a faculty of health sciences. Data were gathered online between May and June 2023 through the Participant Information Form, the Brief Resilience Scale and the Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale. Both descriptive and inferential statistical methods were employed in the data analysis. Results: The mean Brief Resilience Scale total score of the students participating in the study was 17.29 ( ± 4.18), and the mean Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale total score was 62.88 ( ± 12.83). A positive and significant correlation was found between Brief Resilience Scale and Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale total and subscale scores (p < 0.05). Students who received disaster training had significantly higher Brief Resilience Scale and Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale scores compared to those who did not (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of fostering psychological resilience and disaster response self-efficacy in nursing education. Targeted psychological preparedness interventions may help strengthen nursing students’ ability to manage disaster-related stress effectively.

Psychological Resilience and Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Among Nursing Students: A Cross-Sectional Study

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye'deki hemşirelik öğrencileri arasında psikolojik dayanıklılık ve afet müdahale öz-yeterliliği arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu araştırma, bir sağlık bilimleri fakültesinde öğrenim gören 343 hemşirelik öğrencisinin katılımıyla tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel bir çalışma olarak yürütülmüştür. Veriler, Mayıs-Haziran 2023 tarihleri arasında Katılımcı Bilgi Formu, Kısa Süreli Dayanıklılık Ölçeği ve Afet Müdahale Öz-Yeterlilik Ölçeği aracılığıyla çevrimiçi olarak toplanmıştır. Veri analizinde hem betimsel hem de çıkarımsal istatistiksel yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin Kısa Süreli Dayanıklılık Ölçeği toplam puanının ortalaması 17.29 ( ± 4.18), Afet Müdahale Öz-Yeterlilik Ölçeği toplam puanının ortalaması ise 62.88 ( ± 12.83) olarak bulunmuştur. Kısa Süreli Dayanıklılık Ölçeği ile Afet Müdahale Öz-Yeterlilik Ölçeği toplam ve alt ölçek puanları arasında pozitif ve anlamlı bir korelasyon bulunmuştur (p < 0.05). Afet eğitimi alan öğrencilerin Kısa Süreli Dayanıklılık Ölçeği ve Afet Müdahale Öz Yeterlilik Ölçeği puanları, eğitim almayanlara kıyasla anlamlı derecede daha yüksekti (p < 0.05). Sonuç: Bu çalışma, hemşirelik eğitiminde psikolojik dayanıklılığın ve afet müdahale öz yeterliliğinin geliştirilmesinin önemini vurgulamaktadır. Hedefli psikolojik hazırlık müdahaleleri, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin afet kaynaklı stresi etkili bir şekilde yönetme becerilerini güçlendirmeye yardımcı olabilir.
