THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE ANXIETY ON PSYCHOLOGICAL RESILIENCE AMONG MENOPAUSAL WOMEN

Öz

Objective: Climate change is defined as a global psychosocial stressor and may affect the mental health of women in the menopausal period. This study was conducted to examine the impact of climate anxiety on psychological resilience among women in the menopausal period.

Material and Methods: The study was conducted using a descriptive and relational research design. The sample consisted of 315 menopausal women who met the study inclusion criteria. Data were collected via Google Forms distributed through social media platforms using a Sociodemographic Information Form, the Climate Change Anxiety Scale for Women (CCASW), and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale Short Form (CDRSSF). Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple linear regression analysis.

Results: The mean total scale scores were 56.94±15.05 for the CCASW and 25.81±10.29 for the CDRSSF. A weak but statistically significant positive association was identified between CDRSSF scores and the total and subscale scores of the CCASW (p<0.05). Regression analysis indicated that CCASW scores had a statistically significant effect on CDRSSF scores (p<0.001). A one-unit increase in CDRSSF was associated with a 0.160-unit increase in CCASW scores, indicating a positive relationship. CCASW scores accounted for 5.2% of the variance in psychological resilience scores.

Conclusion: It is essential for health professionals to integrate information and assessments regarding the health-related impacts of climate change into care processes. Furthermore, the planning of supportive interventions that take women’s levels of climate-related anxiety into account is of considerable importance.
