A Case of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus Presenting with Excessive Weight Loss

Involuntary excessive weight loss is one of the less common symptoms in type-2 diabetes mellitus. 62-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital with the complaint of an acute involuntary excessive weight loss. There was a weight loss of 32 kg in the patient who had a story of drinking a lot of water and excessive urination in the last month. Laboratory analysis revealed that fasting blood glucose was 408 mg/dL and hemoglobin A1c was 17.6%. An initial diagnosis of malignancy, which might cause excessive weight loss, was excluded by chest radiography, abdominal ultrasonography and thoraco- abdominal computed tomography. High blood glucose levels were normalized with multiple subcutaneous insulin treatment. The patient’s complaints were resolved after the treatment.

AŞIRI KİLO KAYBI İLE PREZENTE OLAN BİR TİP 2 DİYABETES MELLİTUS OLGUSU

Öz

İstenmeyen aşırı kilo kaybı tip-2 diyabetes mellitusun az sıklıkta görülen semptomların- dan biridir. Altmışiki yaşında erkek hasta akut istenmeyen aşırı kilo kaybı şikayeti ile has- tanemize kabul edildi. Çok su içme ve çok idrara çıkma şikayetleri olan hastada son bir ay içerisinde yaklaşık 32 kg kilo kaybı mevcuttu. Laboratuvar analiz sonuçlarında açlık kan şekeri 408 mg/dL ve hemoglobin A1c %17.6 idi. Hastada aşırı kilo kaybı yapabilecek malignite ön tanısı akciğer grafisi, abdomen ultrasonografi ve torako-abdomen bilgisa- yarlı tomografi ile dışlandı. Yüksek kan şekeri seviyeleri çoklu subkutan insülin tedavisi ile normalize edildi. Tedavi sonrası hastanın şikayetlerinde gerileme oldu.
