Bulgular: Çalışmaya alınan 264 hastanın 141’i (%53.4) kadın, 123’i (%46.6) erkekti. Hastaların ortalama yaş
55.7 ± 10, VKİ 31.1 ± 5.5 kg/m², A1c %8.7±2.4, APG 181±82 mg/dL, trigliserit 182±111.7 mg/dL, HDL 42.9±11.7

ABSTRACT
Aim: To evaluate the effect of Waist circumference (WC) and Neck circumference (NC) on glucose, HbA1C,
lipid parameters and blood pressure in patients with diabetes.
Method: Two hundred and ninety patients with Diabetes Mellitus were included in the study. Height,
weight, WC, NC, glucose, HbA1c, HDL, LDL, triglyceride and blood pressure levels were noted. We assessed
the correlation between these measurements and the levels of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), HbA1c, lipid parameters and blood pressure.
Results: Study population was consisted of 141 female (53.4%) and 123 male (46.6%) patients. Mean age
was 55.7 ± 10 year, body mass index (BMI) was 31.1 ± 5.5 kg/m², HbA1c was %8.7±2.4, FPG was 181±82 mg/
dL, trigliserid was 182±111.7 mg/dL, HDL was 42.9±11.7 mg/dL, LDL was 111.8±34 mg/dL, diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was 81.6±12 mmHg, sistolic blood pressure (SBP) was 131±20 mmHg. Mean WC was 106±14 cm and NC was 36.2±2.8 cm in women, mean WC was 105.9±12.8 cm and NC was 37.9±5.1 cm in men. BMI was significantly correlated with WC, SBP and DBP individually in women and men (p<0.001 for each). NC was positively correlated with SBP, DBP and triglycerides (p<0.001, p<0.001, p =0.02) and negatively correlated with HDL (p = 0.09) in all patients. WC was positively correlated with SBP and DBP (p<0.001, p<0.001) and negatively correlated with HDL (p = 0.049) in male and female diabetic patients.
Conclusion: Waist circumference and neck circumference measurements are important and simple physical
examination methods and may reflect metabolic changes in diabetic patients.
