Modernization of the Intercooler in a Diesel Locomotive Engine

Öz

In the over filling systems used in the locomotive diesel engines used in rail systems, which is a
branch of the rapidly developing transportation sector, heatex changers called inter coolers are used. It is
important to selector design the optimum intercooler in an over fill system.
In this study, it was planned to increase the engine volumetric efficiency by designing an intercooler in a
16 cylinder diesel locomotive engine. This engine has
beentriedtodeterminetheoptimumdesignbymakingdifferentdesignswiththecomputationalfluiddynamics
(HAD) analysis on the inter cooler. The prototypes of the designed inter coolers were tested and tested on
the motor. According to the experimental results obtained; It has been found that the efficiency value of
the designed inter cooler is 96% and the temperature of the fill air is 16% lower than the inter cooler
present.

Dizel Lokomotif Motorunda Ara Soğutucu Modernizasyonu

Öz

Günümüzde hızla gelişen ulaşım sektörünün bir kolu olan raylı sistemler de kullanılan lokomotif
dizel motorlarda kullanılan aşırı doldurma sistemlerinde ara soğutucu olarak adlandırılan ısı
değiştiriciler kullanılmaktadır. Bir aşırı doldurma sisteminde optimum ara soğutucunun seçilmesi veya
tasarlanması önem arz etmektedir.
Bu çalışmada, 16 silindirli bir dizel lokomotif motorunda ara soğutucu tasarımı yapılarak motor
volumetrik veriminin artırılması planlanmıştır. Bu motorun ara soğutucu üzerinde hesaplamalı
akışkanlar dinamiği (HAD) analizleri ile farklı tasarımlar yapılarak optimum tasarım belirlenmeye
çalışılmıştır. Tasarlanan ara soğutucuların prototipleri yapılarak motor üzerinde testleri
gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen deneysel sonuçlara göre; tasarlanan ara soğutucunun etkenlik değerinin
%96 olduğu, dolgu havası sıcaklığında mevcut ara soğutucuya göre %16 daha düşük sıcaklık değerini
sağladığı tespit edilmiştir.
