Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, maksiller sinüs augmentasyonun preoperatif radyolojik incelemesinde panoramik radyografi (PAN) ile konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografinin (KIBT) etkinliğinin değerlendirilmesidir.
Yöntem: PAN’da maksiller sinüs augmentasyonu endikasyonu konulan ve maksiller sinüse ait herhangi bir patoloji tespit edilmeyen 78 katılımcının maksiller posterior segmentleri çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hastaların KIBT verileri maksiler sinüs augmentasyonu ve sinüs patolojileri açısından yeniden değerlendirilerek PAN ile karşılaştırıldı.
Bulgular: Yaşları minimum 19 maksimum 75 (ortalama 54,3±10,7) olan katılımcıların 121 maksiller posterior segmenti değerlendirilmiştir. Bu maksiller posterior segmentlerin 61’i (%50,4) kadın 60’ı (%49,6) erkek katılımcıda; 69’u (%57) sol 52’si (%43) sağ bölgede bulunmaktaydı.

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of panoramic radiography (PAN) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the preoperative radiological examination of maxillary sinus augmentation.
Methods: The maxillary posterior segments of 78 participants who were indicated for maxillary sinus augmentation in PAN and who had no pathology of the maxillary sinus were included in the study. CBCT data of the patients were re-evaluated in terms of maxillary sinus augmentation and sinus pathologies and compared with PAN.
Results: 121 maxillary posterior segments of the participants with a minimum age of 19 and a maximum of 75 years (mean age 54.3 ± 10.7) were evaluated. 61 (50.4%) of these maxillary posteri- or segments were in female and 60 (49.6%) in male participants; 69 (57%) of them were in the left and 52 (43%) of them were in the right region. When CBCT data were evaluated in terms of indication of maxillary sinus augmentation and sinus pathologies; it was observed that 106 of them (87.6%) were indicated and 15 of them (12.4%) had maxillary sinus pathology.
Conclusion: In the preoperative radiological evaluation of maxillary sinus augmentation; PAN is a commonly used conventional method, but CBCT provides more precise and clear information.
