DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONCEPT OF INTENTIONALITY: BRENTANO AND HUSSERL

Öz

The concept of intentionality is defined by Brentano to distinguish between mental phenomena and physical phenomena, but Brentano's definition has some ontological implications. From Brentano's definition, first of all, it means that the basic feature of every mental phenomenon is intentional. Secondly, due to the concepts included in the definition, it should be mentioned that intentional objects have a unique entity field. Thus, the unicorn to which the mind is directed and a horse in reality likewise belong to the entity class of the objects of intention. Third, intentionality is defined as a feature specific to the mind and its object, and for this aimed to distinguish between physical phenomena and mental phenomena. By criticizing all three propositions of Brentano's, Husserl transforms the ontological foundations of the concept of intentionality into a knowledge-actual basis. This study aims to explain the differences between the intentional conceptions of the two philosophers and the development of the intentionality concept in terms of the uses of the two philosophers by comparing the use of the concept of intentionality by Brentano and Husserl.

Yönelmişlik Kavramının Gelişimi: Brentano ve Husserl

Öz

Yönelmişlik kavramı Brentano tarafından zihin fenomenlerini ve fizik fenomenlerini birbirinden ayırmak için tanımlanır; fakat Brentano'nun tanımı kimi ontolojik sonuçlara sahiptir. Brentano’nun tanımından öncelikle her zihin fenomeninin temel niteliğinin yönelmişlik olduğu anlamı çıkar. İkinci olarak tanımın içerdiği kavramlardan dolayı yönelim nesnelerinin kendilerine özgü bir varlık alanı olduğundan söz edilmesi gerekir. Böylece zihnin yöneldiği tek boynuzlu at da gerçeklikteki bir at da aynı biçimde yönelim nesnelerinin varlık sınıfına dahil olur. Üçüncü olarak yönelmişlik sadece zihne ve onun nesnesine özgü bir özellik olarak tanımlanarak, fizik fenomenleri ile zihin fenomenlerinin birbirlerinden ayrılması amaçlanır. Husserl, Brentano’nun üç önermesini de eleştirerek yönelmişlik kavramının ontolojik temellerini, bilgi edimsel bir temele dönüştürür. Böylece Brentano’nun kavramı kullanımından doğan sorunlar giderildiği gibi kavram da yeni bir anlam kazanır. Bu çalışma Brentano ve Husserl’in yönelmişlik kavramını kullanım biçimlerini karşılaştırarak hem iki filozofun yönelmişlik anlayışlarının farklılıklarını hem de yönelmişlik kavramının iki filozofun kullanımları bakımından gelişimini açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır.
