FAMILY BELONGING AS A PREDICTOR OF ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP SATISFACTION AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Öz
Romantic relationship satisfaction refers to how fulfilling, secure, and meaningful individuals perceive their romantic relationships. Family belonging is a psychosocial sense of attachment, reflecting the feeling of being valued, accepted, and safe within one's family. This study aimed to examine the relationship between romantic relationship satisfaction and family belonging, and to assess differences based on demographic factors. Designed as a quantitative study using a correlational survey model, the sample consisted of 116 young adults aged 18–30 who had been in a romantic relationship for at least six months. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and variance analyses were performed, along with independent samples t-test and Welch’s t-test. Results showed a positive and significant relationship between romantic relationship satisfaction and family belonging. Participants with a nuclear family background reported significantly higher romantic relationship satisfaction than those from extended families. Similarly, family belonging also differed significantly by family structure. However, no significant differences were found in either variable according to gender. Overall, the findings highlight that stronger feelings of family belonging are associated with higher levels of romantic relationship satisfaction. These results suggest that early family experiences and perceived support within the family may play a critical role in shaping the quality of romantic relationships in young adulthood.
