In the present study, the ostracoda fauna of the sedimentary rocks of Lower Paleogene situated in south of the
Polath Town have been stratigraphicaly examined, its biozones have been distinguished and the findings are interpreted from the
cronostratigraphic and environmental point of view. By evoluating the stratigraphic distribution of 44 ostracoda species, the
existance of 4 biozones in Montian—Cuisian have been proposed. It is interpreted that the Tertiary sequence of the region was
first deposited in a continental and then in a marine environment.
