Digital literacy is considered a necessary skill for any individual today. It is acknowledged that digital literacy has become a fundamental component for an individual to succeed in both their personal and professional life. Digital literacy requires individuals to possess the skills needed for participation in social life across all sectors, with the utmost importance. Digital literacy skills are diverse. As technology advances, the scope and variety of these skills also change. This study will address the topic of digital literacy from the perspective of library professionals working in public libraries, analyzing their viewpoints on digital literacy and their competencies in this area. The aim of this study is to fill an important academic gap by examining the digital literacy skills of library professionals working in public libraries in Turkey and evaluating the digital literacy skills they possess. A survey has been created as a data collection tool. The survey population is limited to provincial public libraries. In this context, a total of thirty-nine questions have been directed to library professionals working in two hundred ninety-five provincial public libraries, consisting of four demographic questions, six questions for assessing digital literacy knowledge level, and six dimensions (twenty-nine questions) related to the digital literacy competency scale. Subsequently, the survey was analyzed using SPSS software. As a result of the research, the digital literacy competencies and skill levels of library professionals in public libraries in Turkey were found to be average and above average, except for programming. It has been revealed that library professionals need to receive both formal and informal training as a development area, and that deficiencies in hardware and software pose obstacles for them. This study adds uniqueness to the research as it is one of the comprehensive studies targeting library and information professionals in public libraries. Additionally, it is stated that this study reveals the digital literacy competencies and skill levels of library professionals. Thus, it is hoped that this study will serve as a guide for curriculum updates in institutions providing education in the field of information and documentation to enhance the competencies and skills of library and information professionals in digital literacy.
