Do al kauçuk art k modern hayat n vazgeçilmez bir mühendislik malzemesidir. Özellikle otomobil parçalar nda, otomobil lastiklerinde ve de günlük ya amdaki birçok araç ve gereçte kullan lan do al kauçuk, s v halde bitki ve a açlardan elde edilerek p ht la t r lmakta ve çe itli proseslerden sonra son ürün olarak kullan ma haz r hale getirilmektedir. Haz rlanan bu çal mada; Azteklerin kauçuk malzemeleri günlük ya amlar nda kullanmalar ndan ba layarak, Christopher Columbus'un Amerika y ke fiyle Avrupal lar n do al kauçu u tan malar ve endüstride kullanmalar tarihsel geli im içinde anlat lm t r. Charles Goodyear' n vulkanizasyonu ke fi ve kauçu un mekanik özelliklerine etkileri vurgulanm t r. Ayr ca do al kauçu un elde edildi i alternatif bitkiler ve yeti me bölgeleri belirtilerek do al kauçu un kimyasal yap s sunulmu tur. Sonuç k sm nda ise dünyadaki ve Türkiye de do al kauçuk tüketimleri kar la t r larak ülkemiz endüstrisi için do al kauçu un önemi vurgulanm t r
