Investigation of Metaverse Awareness of Students of Faculty Sports Sciences

Abstract

This study, which aims to examine the Metaverse awareness of the students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, has a descriptive nature and was designed in a screening model. The research was carried out with a total of 396 participants, 52.3% (n=207) male and 47.7% (n=189) female, studying at Bayburt University in the 2021-2022 academic year. The “Metaverse Scale” developed by Süleymanoğulları et al., (2022) was used to collect the data of the study. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage, t-test and ANOVA test. As a result of the analysis, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of women in the Metaverse awareness of the participants according to the gender variable (p<0.05). According to the department variable, there was no statistically significant difference between the scale mean scores of the participants. According to the grade variable, a significant difference was found between the mean scores of the 3rd and 1st grade students in favor of the 3rd graders (p<0.05). In terms of the time spent on the internet, it was found that the Metaverse awareness levels of the participants who spend more time on the internet daily. In terms of accessing the internet, the Metaverse awareness level of the participants who accessed with mobile devices was found to be higher In conclusion, the Metaverse awareness of the students studying at the faculty of sports sciences was found at a moderate level. In order to increase this, it is thought that it would be beneficial to add the concept to the curriculum of schools, taking into account the relevance of the concept to various fields.

Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Metaverse Farkındalıklarının İncelenmesi

Öz

Spor Bilimleri Fakültesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin Metaverse farkındalıklarının incelenmesini amaçlayan bu çalışma betimsel nitelik taşıyor olup tarama modelinde dizayn edilmiştir. Araştırma, 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında Bayburt Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören, %52,3’i (n=207) erkek ve %47,7’si (n=189) kadın olmak üzere toplam 396 katılımcı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verilerinin toplanmasında Süleymanoğulları, Özdemir, Bayraktar ve Vural (2022), tarafından geliştirilen, “Metaverse Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, yüzde, t testi ve ANOVA testi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda cinsiyet değişkenine göre katılımcıların Metaverse farkındalıklarında, kadınlar lehine istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur (p<0.05). Bölüm değişkenine göre ise katılımcıların ölçek puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık tespit edilmemiştir. Sınıf değişkenine göre, 3. Sınıf ve 1. sınıf öğrencilerin ölçek ortalama puanları arasında 3. sınıflar lehine anlamlı farklılık tespit edilmiştir (p<0.05). İnternette günlük geçirilen süre bakımından, genel anlamda internette günlük olarak fazla süre geçiren katılımcıların Metaverse farkındalık düzeylerinin yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. İnternete erişim bakımından ise mobil cihazlarla erişim sağlayan katılımcıların Metaverse farkındalık düzeyi daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak spor bilimleri fakültesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin Metaverse farkındalıkları orta düzeyde bulunmuştur. Bunun artırılması için öncelikli olarak kavramın çeşitli alanlarla ilgisi de göz önünde bulundurularak, okullarda ders müfredatlarına eklenmesinin faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
