Öz

Marsilyalı tüccar-armatör ve sanayici bir aile olan Rostandlar, kurmuş oldukları kumpanyalarla Osmanlı-Fransız deniz ticaret ilişkileri açısından oldukça önemli bir yere sahiptir. Rostand ailesine ait Bruno Rostand Kumpanyası, Rostand Vidal Kumpanyası, Levant Vapur Kumpanyası gibi şirketler ve Levant limanlarında açmış oldukları ticaret evleri, 19 yüzyılın ilk yarısında Fransız çıkarları ve yayılmacılığının Doğu Akdeniz’de gelişmesinde hayati rol oynadı. Rostandların kurmuş oldukları liberal şirketler, daha sonraki Fransız vapur nakliyat kumpanyaları için temel teşkil ederek uluslararası büyük vapur nakliyat şirketlerinin oluşumuna zemin hazırladı. Bu çalışmada Rostandlar ve kurdukları kumpanyalar etrafında Osmanlı-Fransız deniz ticaret ilişkileri ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır.

The Family of the French Bourgeoisie Rising on the Scales of the Levant: Rostand’s and Levant Shipping Companies

The members of the family of Rostand (from Marseille) were famous traders, ship owners, entrepre¬neurs and they played very important role in maritime commercial relations between the Ottoman Empire and France. The companies belonging to the Rostand’s were “Bruno Rostand & Cie”, “Rostand Vidal & Cie”, “La cie. Vapeur du Levant” and the houses of commerce of the Levant played a very important role in the push-ing of French interests and expansion in the Eastern Mediterranean in the first part of XIX century. The private enterprises founded by Rotond’s became the base for the creation of a number of international steam boat companies. This article addresses research into the role of the enterprises belonged to Rostand’s within the context of the maritime relations between the Ottoman Empire and France.
