Verification and Generalization in Positivistic Social Science Research; An Epistemological Analysis

This article focuses on the "generalization and verification" principles as significant problems in positivistic social science research. Our aim is to discuss the epistemological dimensions of the "generalization and verification" in positivistic social science. Mostly, researchers are confused that how the data will transform into epistemological area and how and why the data will be collected and used in as a scientific research? As a scientific reality of the data which is collected in positivistic social research, there are not only a mathematical (statistical) or methodological problems but also there are ontological and epistemological problems. It mean, researchers have to understand and obey some ontological and epistemological rules in positivistic social science research. If researchers neglect the ontological and epistemological fiction of the research the methodological and statistical fiction of the research will have include fatal errors. Because, every methodological (also statistical) approaches have to bases on an ontological and epistemological theory. For these reasons, as an epistemological requirement, processes have fatal errors (scientifically) that we come across frequently during the selection of the research universe (generalizations) and the establishment of hypotheses (verification). These fatal errors “are unacceptable and are the failure for positivistic science research. The purpose of this article is \"not a deep solution\", but the researchers who will need it for study design and both the process and methods used in the results (methodological one) who is trying to tell you of ontological-epistemological structure is actually what it mean.

Pozitivist Sosyal Bilim Araştırmalarında Doğrulama ve Genelleme; Epistemolojik Bir İnceleme
Öz
Öncelikle vurgulamalıyız ki, bu makale temel olarak, bilimsel araştırmalarda sıklıkla rastlanan ve önemli sorunlar olan “genelleme ve doğrulama” ilkelerini epistemolojik boyutları ile ele alıp incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Gerekçemizi, bilimsel çalışmalar sırasında araştırmacıların “araştırdıkları olgular dünyasından” elde ettikleri verileri nasıl/hangi gerekçelere dayalı olarak bilimsel bilgi halinde alana aktaracakları konusundaki kafa karışıklığı oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin “bilimselliği” ile ilgili kararlar sadece “metodolojik/yöntem bilimsel” (ki, son derece önemlidir) perspektiften değil fakat aynı zamanda ve ilişkili olarak “Ontolojik ve Epistemolojik” perspektiften (bir zorunluluk olarak) bakılarak verilmelidir. Ontolojik-Epistemolojik kurgusu ihmal edilmiş veya kurgusu ile uyuşmayan “metodolojik” ele alışların veya sadece matematik (istatistiksel) gerekliliklerin karşılanması yolu ile “bilimsel bilginin” elde edilmiş olacağına ilişkin kabullerin “bilimsel” olarak önemli eksiklikleri içermesi kaçınılmazdır. İşte bu nedenledir ki, epistemolojik bir gereklilik olan ve araştırma evreninin seçiminde (genelleme) ve hipotezlerin kurulmasında (doğrulama) sıklıkla rastladığımız ve çoğu bilimsel olarak “kabul edilemez olan hataların varlığı” karşı karşıya kaldığımız sonuçlar olmaktadır. Bu makalenin amacı “bir derin çözüm” olmayıp, araştırmacılara gerek araştırma tasarımlarında ve gerekse süreç ve sonuçlarda kullandıkları yöntemleri (metodolojik olanı) kuran ontolojik-epistemolojik yapının aslında ne demek istediğini anlatmaya çalışmaktır.
