Investigation Of The Effects Of Different Post Activation Potentiation (PAP) Loads Applied During Warm-Up On Some Performance Parameters In Badminton Players

Öz

Purpose: This study investigated the acute effects of different post-activation potentiation (PAP) protocols applied during warm-up on vertical jump, 30-m sprint, agility, and flexibility performance in male badminton players.

Method: Twenty licensed male badminton players (age: 19.91±0.98 years) participated in this randomized cross-over experimental study. Participants completed four experimental conditions consisting of 100% one-repetition maximum (1RM) × 1 repetition, 90% 1RM × 3 repetitions, 80% 1RM × 5 repetitions, and a no-load control protocol on separate testing days. Following each protocol, vertical jump, 30-m sprint, T-test agility, and sit-and-reach flexibility performances were assessed. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Bonferroni post hoc comparisons. Statistical significance was accepted at p<0.05.

Results: Significant differences were observed among the PAP protocols for all performance variables (p<0.05). The highest mean vertical jump and agility performances were obtained following the 80% 1RM protocol, whereas the highest mean sprint and flexibility performances were observed after the 90% 1RM protocol. The control condition consistently produced the lowest performance values across all measured variables.

Conclusion: The findings indicate that half-squat-based PAP protocols can acutely enhance physical performance in badminton players. However, the optimal loading intensity appears to vary according to the targeted performance variable. Therefore, PAP protocols should be individualized according to the specific physical demands of competition or training.
