The Relationship Between Female Employment and Sectoral Growth: A Comparative Analysis with Male Employment in E-7 Countries

Female employment contributes significantly to economic development and growth. However, many factors, such as globalization and country-specific socio-economic factors, significantly affect female labor force participation and employment. These effects become more evident, especially in developing countries. Therefore, examining the relationship between female employment and sectoral growth in these countries is particularly important in emphasizing the economic contributions of female employment. This study examines the effects of female employment on sectoral growth in E-7 countries compared with male employment. In the study, cointegration and causality analyses were carried out in comparison with male employment, using the annual data set of the E-7 countries for 1991-2019. As a result of the study, it has been determined that there is cointegration between agriculture, industry, and services sectors and female employment. At the same time, when the country-specific coefficients are examined, it is seen that the direction and size of the relationship differ. Moreover, in the causality analysis, while bidirectional causality was found between female employment and agriculture and services sectors, no causality was found in the industrial sector. Therefore, it is seen that the relationship between female employment and sectoral added values differ in the short and long term, and employment policies to be implemented should take this situation into account.

Kadın İstihdamı ve Sektörel Büyüme Arasındaki İlişki: E-7 Ülkelerinde Erkek İstihdamı ile Karşılaştırmalı Bir Analiz

Öz

Kadın istihdamı, ekonomik kalkınmaya ve büyümeye önemli katkılar sunmaktadır. Ancak küreselleşme süreci başta olmak üzere ülkelere özgü sosyo-ekonomik faktörler gibi birçok etken kadınların işgücüne katılımını ve istihdamını önemli ölçüde etkilemektedir. Bu etkiler özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerde daha belirgin hale gelmektedir. Bu açıdan bu ülkelerde kadın istihdamı ve sektörel büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi, kadın istihdamının ekonomik katkılarının vurgulanması açısından özel önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada E-7 ülkelerinde kadın istihdamının sektörel büyümeye olan etkilerinin erkek istihdamı ile karşılaştırmalı olarak ele alınması amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmada E-7 ülkelerine ait 1991-2019 yıllarına ait yıllık veri seti kullanılarak, erkek istihdamı ile karşılaştırmalı olarak eşbütünleşme ve nedensellik analizi yapılmıştır. Analizler sonucunda, tarım, sanayi ve hizmetler sektörü ve kadın istihdamı arasında eşbütünleşmenin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda ülkelere özgü katsayılara bakıldığında, ilişkinin yönünün ve boyutunun farklılaştığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca nedensellik analizinde, kadın istihdamı ile tarım ve hizmetler sektöründe çift yönlü nedensellik bulunurken, sanayi sektöründe herhangi bir nedensellik bulunamamıştır. Kadın istihdamı ve sektörel katma değerler arasındaki ilişkinin kısa ve uzun dönemde farklılaştığı görülmekte ve uygulanacak istihdam politikalarının bu durumu göz önünde bulundurması gerekmektedir.
