A Study on Promoting Pre-service Science Teachers' Readiness for General Physics Laboratory I Course

Öz

This research was conducted in order to ensure coming prepared of science teachers to laboratory practices with reflective thinking focused self-assessment practices in General Physics Laboratory I courses and to ensure them to get more efficiency from course. 26 first-grade science education teacher candidates studying at 2013-2014 fall semester constitute the working group of research. In this research, action research was adopted. Experiment sheet and semi-structured interview form including reflective thinking focused self-assessment practices was used as data collection tool. It was analyzed with content analysis by coding obtained data. In consequence of this research, reflective thinking focused self-assessment practices used in General Physics Laboratory I courses for generally preparation of teacher candidates to the course has been shown to have positive effects. Besides semi-structured interviewed teacher candidates stated that these practices improved their critical thinking skills and the ability to self-criticism. According to the results of the research, it is recommended lecturers to use reflective thinking focused self-assessment practices in laboratory sheets.
