Effect of Fiber Type on the Load-Displacement and Freeze-Thaw Behaviors of Concretes

In this study, effect of different fiber types on the compressive and flexural strength and freeze-thaw resistance of fiber reinforced concretes were investigated. Different mix proportions were prepared with constant water-binder ratio of 0,35 and binder content of 500 kg/m3. In all mixtures, 40% of binder was replaced with FA. Adding 1% of steel, polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, fiber reinforced concretes were produced. Compressive and bending tests were performed using MTS machine so load-displacement graphs are obtained. Furthermore, produced prism specimens were exposed to 300 freezing-thawing cycles. Mass loss and reduction in mechanical properties of prisms were measured at each 30 cycles up to 300 cycles. Test results showed that steel fiber reinforced concretes had the relatively higher flexural strength and freeze-thaw resistance than the PP and PVA fiber reinforced concretes.
