Ozone therapy in dentistry
Abstract
Ozone therapy has been used in medicine and dentistry for many years. Ozone has various effects such as antimicrobial, antihypoxic, immunomodulatory, biosynthetic and analgesic, and its use is becoming increasingly common. Ozone therapy has been used in dentistry for wound healing, dental caries, oral lichen planus, gingivitis and periodontitis, osteonecrosis of the jaw, postoperative pain, plaque and biofilm eliminations, dentin hypersensitivity, temporomandibular joint disorders and teeth whitening. This study investigates the mechanism of ozone, its application and its use for the treatment of various dental diseases. For this purpose, a comprehensive literature review has been made on the use of ozone in various fields of dentistry. As a result, ozone therapy is very promising as it is a minimally invasive approach that has potential in many areas of dentistry and is applied for the treatment of various dental diseases.
