Decision making in social and economic activities occurs through a highly complex cognitive process. At the end of this process, each individual aims to obtain utility. For tourists, choosing a region or country to visit involves a complex decision-making process, with the primary goal being to gain benefits from the activity. In the selection of a destination, the perception of safety or crime rates is an influential factor in the decision-making process. The relationship between tourism and crime is twofold: the impact of crime on tourism and the impact of tourism on crime. Moreover, in this relationship, the impact of criminal behavior on tourism may be direct or indirect. For this reason, the complex nature of crime necessitates interdisciplinary studies on crime. In this article, the relationship between tourism and crime is evaluated through literature reviews and theoretical perspectives, focusing on the effects of tourists' perception of crime on their decision-making . In addition, environmental crimes that have relatively low visibility and have an indirect impact on tourism have also been examined. Environmental crimes are discussed together with illegal wildlife trade and illegal trade of cultural artifacts
