This research provides a detailed examination of the musical genres, tempos, keys, production qualities, and thematic content of the lyrics in the most streamed songs on Spotify in 2023. The aim is to explore the impact of music genres and technical characteristics on listener preferences, unraveling the complex relationship between popular music and audience tastes. Observational and mixed-methods approaches were employed, with the analysis focusing on the top 10 most streamed songs on Spotify in 2023. Data were collected from Spotify streaming statistics and technical features provided by Musicstax as of June 1, 2023, while the lyrics were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal a strong connection between musical genres, technical features, and the thematic content of popular songs in 2023 and listener preferences. It was found that technical factors such as production quality, energy levels, danceability, positivity, and acoustic characteristics also play a crucial role in the popularity of songs. This study demonstrates that music reflects social and cultural identities, and highlights how the music industry's efforts to preserve and promote diversity have increased listeners' interest in various musical genres.
