The Influence of Family Configuration and Ambience to Violence in Schools

Öz

Violence in schools has disquietted highly nowadays.Violence events in schools are both hindering education processes and endangering students. There must be a big struggle with the violence events in schools for children’s healthy development and also for good and efficent education.One of the most important reasons of the violence in schools is deterioration in family configuration and violence in the family.Children follow their parents and in schools they do what they see in the family.Therefore,both knowing family configuration ambience well and forming a healthy family atmosphere for the chidren are very important to prevent the violence in schools.In order to protect children from the violence,making parents conscious of this problem will play a crucial role in preventing the violence.Preventing the violence which is experienced in every areas of the social structure will be provided only with the findings obtained in the light of scientific data. In this research,we examine the influence of family configuration and ambience to the violence in schools.The sampling of our research includes 1410 randomly selected students who continue their high school education in the academic year of 2009-2010 at public schools appertain to the Ministry of Education in Küçükçekmece district of İstanbul.The data obtained have been reviewed in the light of the analysis conducted through Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program.In the analysis of the data and testing the hypothesis frequency(f) and percent(%),variance analysis (ANOVA –F test),t-test, correlation; and in the multiple comparison tests chi-square have been utilized. Acorrding to the findings of our research, the most important reason of violence in school is inadequate education in the family and witnessing violence in the family. The family is the base of society and it has a critical role in applying healthy education in school and preparing a peaceful atmosphere in the class as well. Because the child will bring what he has learned at home to the school. If the child has a caring, affectionate,gentle, merciful environment at home, he’ll reflect it to the school and class environment. However, quite the opposite can happen. The child will reflect all the negativity at home to the school and class environment. From this point of view, a healthy education atmosphere is only possible with a healthy family life. The children who are behaved harshly at home commit violence at school. The parents’ behaviour towards the child and their moral attitude affect the child deeply. The child’ aggression, moral attitude and manner is shaped by his family. The child’s aggression and moral attittude also determine his aggression in the schhool. The parents must be aware of this situation and behave acoording to these realities. The parents must be aware of the importance of a healthy family life for the child and the society and do their bests to create a healthy family life.
