ÖĞRETMENLERİN ÖĞRETMEN LİDERLİĞİ ALGILARININ ÖRGÜTSEL VATANDAŞLIK DAVRANIŞLARINA ETKİSİ

Öz

Bu çalışma öğretmen liderliği davranışlarının örgütsel vatandaşlık davranışları üzerine etkisini incelemektedir. Öğretmenlerin, öğretmen liderliği davranışlarının örgütsel vatandaşlık davranışlarına olan etkinsini belirlemek amacıyla Sivas Merkez ilçede 12 ilköğretim okulunda toplam 450 öğretmene ölçek uygulanmış ger dönen ve işlenmeye uygun 320 ölçek üzerinden veri analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada öğretmenlerin öğretmen liderliği algıları “ Öğretmen Liderliği Ölçeği” ile, öğretmenlerin örgütsel vatandaşlık davranış düzeyleri ise“ Örgütsel Vatandaşlık Davranışı Ölçeği” kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde aritmetik Ortalama, Standart sapma ve Regresyon analizi teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları Öğretmen Liderliği Algılarının, Örgütsel Vatandaşlık Davranışı alt boyutları ile ilişkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Regresyon analizi sonuçları ise öğretmen liderliği algıları alt boyutlarından mesleki gelişmenin, örgütsel vatandaşlık davranışları alt boyutlarından yardımseverlik ve sivil erdem alt boyutlarını diğer alt boyutlara göre daha fazla yordadığını göstermektedir.

  • The most accepted definition in literature is Organ’s (1988) one emphasizing voluntariness, not expecting, behaviors without any orders and these form the soul of organizational citizenship behaviors (George, 1992; Organ, 1988). Organizational citizenship behaviors contain not only the behaviors which are expected from the one himself, but also volunteer behaviors beyond roles (Basım, Şeşen, Sözen and Hızır, 2009).
  • Organ (1988) collects organizational citizenship behaviors under five titles. Organizational citizenship dimensions are ranged; Grace, Cooperation, Consciousness, Kindness and Civil Virtue.
  • It is thought that a consistent relationship between leadership and citizenship behaviors. Leader’s help to workers is seen as a citizenship behavior by himself and a leadership behavior from the point of worker (Güven, 2006).
  • In this study, it is aimed to describe the relationship between teacher leadership behaviors and organizational citizenship behaviors. METHOD
  • In this study which deals with the relationship between teacher leadership and organizational citizenship in primary schools, it is aimed to describe the relationship between two variables. As data collection tool, teacher leadership scale and organizational citizenship scale are used. Gained data is analyzed by such statistical techniques as simple and multi regression analysis. In relational scanning model in this study, teacher leadership organizational citizenship is determined as dependent variable.
  • Participants Of The Research
  • Participants of the research consist of 12 grade schools in year 2011-2012. Participating schools were chosen randomly. Scales was given to all 450 teachers who serve in 12 schools located in city centre of Sivas and 320 returned and convenient scales were evaluated.

  • According to quantitative research methods ”Teacher Leadership Scale for Identification of Perception and Expectation” which was developed by Beycioğlu (2009) was used to determine perceptions and expectations of teachers and administrators concerning teacher leadership (Beycioğlu and Aslan, 2007).
  • Teachers’ Scale for Perception of Organizational Citizenship Behaviour
  • Teachers’ organizational citizenship behaviours was measured by “scale for organizational citizenship behaviour” which was prepared by Podsakoff ve MacKenzie (1989) based on five dimensions of Organ’s organizational citizenship behaviour (1988) and then was improved by Podsakoff, MacKenzie, Moorman and Fetter (1990) and Moorman (1991). Scale for organizational citizenship behaviour adapted to Turkish by Polat (2009). Data Analysis
  • DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
  • When findings concerning teacher leadership and organizational citizenship are investigated generally, one can say that scores of organizational citizenship behaviours are in high level.
  • It is shown that occupational and institutional improvements which are sub-dimensions of teachers’ teacher leadership behaviours have an effect on helpfulness behaviour which is one of the sub-dimensions of organizational citizenship behaviours. In this case, helping beginner teachers is recommended to administrators by means of creating a positive organizational climate in the school.
  • Significant relationship was determined between occupational and institutional improvement oriented behaviours which are sub-dimensions of teachers’ teacher leadership behaviours and prediction of civilian virtue behaviours which is one of the sub-dimensions of organizational citizenship. Therefore administration of school over teachers’ informal interactions can also be thought as helpful in terms of school improvement and quality of students.
  • Leadership is accepted as a predecessor of organizational citizenship behaviour (Alizadeh, Darvishi, Nazari and Emami, 2012). Some research results are found concerning that different leadership approaches also predict organizational citizenship behaviour (Aslan, 2009; Chen and Yang, 2012; Asgari, Silong, Ahmad and Samah, 2008; Çalışkan, 2010).But there is no research in literature that studies the relationship between teacher leadership and organizational citizenship behaviour, moreover, it is possible to claim that this study contributes to the literature.

IMPACT OF TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION OF TEACHER LEADERSHIP UPON ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIORS

Öz

This study examines impact of teachers’ perception of teacher leadership upon organizational citizenship behaviors. To determine this, 450 teachers from 12 primary schools in Sivas are applied the scale and of the ones who turned back, and data analysis is done from 320 teachers. In the study, teachers’ perception of teacher leadership is determined by “Teacher Leadership Scale” and level of teachers’ organizational citizenship behavior is determined by “Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale”. In the analysis of data, arithmetic average, standard deviation and regression analysis techniques are used. Findings of the study shows that Perception of Teacher Leadership is linked with Organizational Citizenship Behavior and its sub dimensions. Regression analysis results show that perception of teacher leadership predicts career development, helpfulness and civil virtue more than other sub dimensions.

  • The most accepted definition in literature is Organ’s (1988) one emphasizing voluntariness, not expecting, behaviors without any orders and these form the soul of organizational citizenship behaviors (George, 1992; Organ, 1988). Organizational citizenship behaviors contain not only the behaviors which are expected from the one himself, but also volunteer behaviors beyond roles (Basım, Şeşen, Sözen and Hızır, 2009).
  • Organ (1988) collects organizational citizenship behaviors under five titles. Organizational citizenship dimensions are ranged; Grace, Cooperation, Consciousness, Kindness and Civil Virtue.
  • It is thought that a consistent relationship between leadership and citizenship behaviors. Leader’s help to workers is seen as a citizenship behavior by himself and a leadership behavior from the point of worker (Güven, 2006).
  • In this study, it is aimed to describe the relationship between teacher leadership behaviors and organizational citizenship behaviors. METHOD
  • In this study which deals with the relationship between teacher leadership and organizational citizenship in primary schools, it is aimed to describe the relationship between two variables. As data collection tool, teacher leadership scale and organizational citizenship scale are used. Gained data is analyzed by such statistical techniques as simple and multi regression analysis. In relational scanning model in this study, teacher leadership organizational citizenship is determined as dependent variable.
  • Participants Of The Research
  • Participants of the research consist of 12 grade schools in year 2011-2012. Participating schools were chosen randomly. Scales was given to all 450 teachers who serve in 12 schools located in city centre of Sivas and 320 returned and convenient scales were evaluated.

  • According to quantitative research methods ”Teacher Leadership Scale for Identification of Perception and Expectation” which was developed by Beycioğlu (2009) was used to determine perceptions and expectations of teachers and administrators concerning teacher leadership (Beycioğlu and Aslan, 2007).
  • Teachers’ Scale for Perception of Organizational Citizenship Behaviour
  • Teachers’ organizational citizenship behaviours was measured by “scale for organizational citizenship behaviour” which was prepared by Podsakoff ve MacKenzie (1989) based on five dimensions of Organ’s organizational citizenship behaviour (1988) and then was improved by Podsakoff, MacKenzie, Moorman and Fetter (1990) and Moorman (1991). Scale for organizational citizenship behaviour adapted to Turkish by Polat (2009). Data Analysis
  • DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
  • When findings concerning teacher leadership and organizational citizenship are investigated generally, one can say that scores of organizational citizenship behaviours are in high level.
  • It is shown that occupational and institutional improvements which are sub-dimensions of teachers’ teacher leadership behaviours have an effect on helpfulness behaviour which is one of the sub-dimensions of organizational citizenship behaviours. In this case, helping beginner teachers is recommended to administrators by means of creating a positive organizational climate in the school.
  • Significant relationship was determined between occupational and institutional improvement oriented behaviours which are sub-dimensions of teachers’ teacher leadership behaviours and prediction of civilian virtue behaviours which is one of the sub-dimensions of organizational citizenship. Therefore administration of school over teachers’ informal interactions can also be thought as helpful in terms of school improvement and quality of students.
  • Leadership is accepted as a predecessor of organizational citizenship behaviour (Alizadeh, Darvishi, Nazari and Emami, 2012). Some research results are found concerning that different leadership approaches also predict organizational citizenship behaviour (Aslan, 2009; Chen and Yang, 2012; Asgari, Silong, Ahmad and Samah, 2008; Çalışkan, 2010).But there is no research in literature that studies the relationship between teacher leadership and organizational citizenship behaviour, moreover, it is possible to claim that this study contributes to the literature.
