Nurses’ Knowledge, Opinion and Practices Regarding to İnjection Practices in Ventrogluteal Site

Öz

Introduction: According to the results of the searches based on evidence in recent years, ventrogluteal injection is acknowledged as the most reliable area of injection. Objectives The aim of this study is to determine nurses’knowledge, related with intramuscular injection performances to the ventrogluteal area. Methods It was made as a descriptive research in a training and research hospital. Eighty-five nurses were included to the research. While collecting data, a data collection form in which information questions about ventrogluteal area and the views related with the injection performance of nurse, was used. Results As the result of the study, 48.2 % of nurses were reported that use dorsogluteal site every time and 38.8 %of them use ventrogluteal site in no time. Nurses (72.9%) said that they don’t have enough knowledge related with this area, 52.9 % know that how to identify this area, 62.4 % identify it correctly and 70.6 % is not difficult to give the position to the patient for injection. It was determined that nurses have incorrect information about applied age group (95.3%), determining injection surface (87.1%) and ventrogluteal injection muscles (72.5%). Conclusion It was detected that nurses have positive opinions about performance of injection from ventrogluteal area. Although it was stated that they don’t have enough information on the performance from ventrogluteal area, they are not aware of this situation
