Abtract A New Approach in Education of Type 1 Diabetic Adolescents: Web-Based Education

Yıl 2015, Cilt: 8 Sayı: 3, 184 - 189, 01.08.2015

The aim of this study is to evaluate the contents and effects of the web-based trainings which are used in the education of the type 1 diabetic adolescents. We have examined the contents, methods, findings as well as the recommendations of 61 studies that were published between 2005 and 2014. We found these studies by using the key words such as “web based diabetes education” and “web based diabetes training” in websites as “Pubmed”, “Cochrane” and “Google Academic”. We have found that the %73.7 of the studies (n:45) were not appropriate to the inclusion criteria. Therefore, we decided that the %43.7 of the studies were suitable for the web-based diabetes training. The %83.3 of the studies (n:5) were randomized and controlled and all the studies were interventional. In these studies, diabetes-related the life qualities of adolescents, their self-efficacies, their self-management levels, coping with stress situations, social competence, family conflict, problem-solving skills were examined. Conclusively, providing the web-based health trainings to the adolescents with type-1 diabetes have positive impacts both on their problem-solving and disease management skills. Furthermore, it has been stated that these web-based trainings also enhance the HbA1c levels of the adolescents
