The effectiveness of contraception methods and educational level of women: A sample from Southeast Anatolia

The aim of present study was to evaluate relationships between contraceptive methods, their failures and educational status of women in Southeast Anatolia.152 multiparous women who use a contraceptive method and applied to Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of Ergani State Hospital were selected. Patients\' age, gestation and birth numbers, marriage period, the ratios of unwanted gestations and related curettage and educational levels were determined. The mean age of study group was 29.7±6.6 years, mean marriage period 9.5±5.7 years, mean gravida 3.5±1.8 (1-9) and mean parity was 2.8±1.3 (1-6). Applied contraceptive methods were as follows: coitus interruptus (42.1%), intrauterine device (IUD) (19.1%), oral contraceptives (15.8%), condom (13.2%), tubal ligation (7.2%) and others (2.6%). Bu çalısmada bölgesel bazda, basvurulan kontraseptif yöntemleri, buna ragmen gelisen istenmeyen gebelikler ve ögrenim düzeyi iliskisini degerlendirmek amaçlanmıstır. Ocak 2007-Nisan 2008 tarihleri arası Ergani Devlet Hastanesi Kadın Dogum poliklinigine basvuran ve kontraseptif yöntem kullanan 152 multipar kadında; yas, gebelik ve dogum sayısı, evlilik süresi, istenmeyen gebelik ve buna baglı küretaj oranları, hastaların ögrenim durumları gibi parametreler degerlendirildi. Çalısma grubunu olusturan kadınların yas ortalaması 29.7±6.6 yıl, ortalama evlilik süresi 9.5±5.7 yıl, gravida 3.5±1.8 (1-9) ve parite: 2.8±1.3 (1-6) idi. En sık kullanılan yöntem koitus interruptus olup (% 42.1), diger yöntemler, sıklık sırasına göre; rahim içi araç (R_A) (%19.1), oral kontraseptifler (%15.8), kondom (%13.2), tüp ligasyonu (% 7.2) ve digerleri (% 2.6) idi.
