Changes in family functions in patients with secondary premature ejaculation

Objectives: We aimed to inverstigate changes in family functions in patients with premature ejaculation. Materials and methods: In the present study, study group were randomly selected from Mustafa Kemal University Medical School Research and Training Hospital Urology Department outpatients clinic. Control group were se­lected among healthy volunteers. Totally 30 patients were included in the PE group and 30 healthy volunteers were included in the control group. Subjects were examined by the same psychiatrist. Beck Anxiety Inventory and Family Assessment Scale were applied to both groups Results: Compared with the control group, prema­ture ejaculation patients had significantly higher anxiety scores (p=0.001) and more deterioration in problem solv­ing (p=0.001), communication (p=0.022), affective re­sponsiveness (p=0.011), behavior control (p=0.032), and affective involvement in their families (p=0.011). There were no difference in terms of roles and general functions scores (p>0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is deteriora­tion in family functions in patients with premature ejacu­lation, Therefore, approaches targeting family functions may be beneficial in the treatment of these patients.

Akkiz prematür ejakülasyon hastalarında ailesel işlevlerdeki değişiklikler

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmada akkiz prematür ejakülasyonu (PE) olan bireylerde ailesel işlevlerdeki değişikliklerin araştırıl­ması amaçlandı. Gereç ve yöntem: Çalışmamızda PE grubu Mustafa Ke­mal Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Araştırma Hastanesi Üroloji polikliniğine başvuran hastalardan seçildi. Kontrol grubu ise sağlıklı gönüllüler arasından seçildi. Üroloji poliklini­ğinde hastalar ejakülasyon süresine göre incelendi. Bir dönem herhangi bir şikayeti olmadığı halde bir süredir ejakülasyon süresi bir dakikadan kısa olan ve bundan şi­kayeti olan bireylerde PE olduğu kabul edildi. Toplam 30 katılımcı PE grubu olarak, 30 sağlıklı gönüllü de kontrol grubu olarak çalışmaya dahil edildi. Daha sonra bu katı­lımcılar psikiyatr tarafından değerlendirildi. Tüm katılımcı­lara Beck Ansiyete Ölçeği ve Aile Değerlendirme Ölçeği uygulandı. Bulgular: PE grubunda anksiyete düzeyi kontrol gru­bundan daha yüksekti (p=0.001). Aile değerlendirme öl­çeğinde PE grubunda problem çözme (p=0.001), iletişim (p=0.022), duygusal cevap verebilme (p=0.011), davranış kontrolü (p=0.032), gereken ilgiyi gösterme (p=0.011) alt ölçeklerinde puanlar kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı olarak daha yüksekti. Genel fonksiyonlar (p=0.217) ve roller (p=0.133) açısından anlamlı farklılığa rastlanmadı (p>0.05). Sonuç: PE hastalarında ailesel işlevlerde bozulma oldu­ğu söylenebilir, dolayısıyla bu hastaların tedavisinde aile­sel işlevlere yönelik yaklaşımlar fayda sağlayabilir.
