A case of solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura presented with hemoptysis

Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare tumors that usually have benign characteristics. These tumors are usually diagnosed in the sixth or seventh decades of life with equal frequency in both sexes. Chest pain, cough and dyspnea are most common complaints. In half of the patients, the tumor is asymptomatic and usually detected by X-ray graphics performed for another reasons. The computed tomography scan of the chest is the gold stan­dard for diagnosis of the pleural mass due to its high sen­sitivity and specifity. The preoperative definitive diagnosis of PSFT is highly challenging rare clinical condition. It can be confused with a wide range of diseases from cysts to tumoral masses. The thoracotomy is necessary for de­finitive diagnosis and curative therapy. Complete surgical resection provides long term survival. Here we presented a case of PSFT about a patient who was admitted with hemoptysis, which is the least expected symptom of the disease, and underwent thoracotomy for definitive diag­nosis and curative therapy with related literature.

Hemoptizi ile başvuran bir plevral soliter fibröz tümör olgusu

Öz

Plevral soliter fibröz tümör (PSFT) nadir görülen ve genel­likle benign karakterli bir tümördür. Bu tümörler daha çok 6. ve 7. dekatlarda ortaya çıkmakta olup her iki cinsi eşit etkilemektedir. Göğüs ağrısı, nefes darlığı ve öksürük en sık karşılaşılan semptomlardır. Hastaların yaklaşık olarak yarısı asemptomatik olup, genellikle başka bir nedenle çekilen grafiler ile saptanırlar. Plevral kitlelerin tanısında, toraks BT yüksek duyarlılık ve özgüllüğü ile altın standart­tır. PSFT, preoperatif kesin tanısı çok zor olan sıradışı bir klinik durumdur. Kistten tümöral kitleye kadar uzanan geniş bir hastalık spektrumu ile karışabilir. Torakotomi ge­nelikle kesin tanı ve küratif tedavi için gereklidir. Komplet cerrahi rezeksiyon uzun dönem sağ kalım sağlar. Çalış­mamızda, nadir bir tümör olan PSFT hastalığının en sıra dışı semptomu olan hemoptizi nedeniyle müracaat eden ve kesin tanı ve tedavi için torakotomi uyguladığımız bir PSFT olgusunu ilgili literatür eşliğinde sunduk.
