Nature of “Explanation” as a Criterion of Science

Investigating the nature of science is the very heart of studies of philosophies of science. Reasons of studying nature of science could be counted as it has been extremely successful, and the impact of the outputs of scientific work has conspicuously the character of modern life. Generally philosophers interested in science in three ways: Firstly it has seen as an attempt to determine the adequacy of scientific picture of world to see if it brings to terms the picture presenting itself to the senses. Secondly investigation of special concepts and individual scientific theories. Thirdly analyses of concepts which are not used in so much by scientists. If anyone want to know there is any consensus among the philosophies of science concerning with nature of science that meets the concept of “scientific explanation”. And also philosophers think about the nature of scientific explanation for two reasons: at first explanations are supposed to tell us how things work and knowing how things work gives us the power to manipulate our environment to achieve our own ends, and second science is supposed to be our best means of generating explanations which satisfy the criterion of providing the means to accomplish our goals

Bilimsellik Ölçütü olarak “Açıklamanın” Doğası

Öz

Bilim felsefesi çalışmalarının özünde bilimin doğasına ilişkin incelemeler yapma arzusunun olduğu söylenebilir. Bilimin başarıları ve bilimsel çalışmaların sonuçlarının çağdaş yaşamın karakterini önemli ölçüde etkilemesi, bilimin doğasına ilişkin çalışmaların en önemli nedenleridir. Bununla beraber genellikle filozofların bilimde ilgilendikleri şey üç şekilde ortaya çıkar: Birincisi; dünyanın bilimsel tasvirine ilişkin yeterliğin belirlenmesi ki buradaki amaç kendini duyulara ve basit zihinlere sunduğu biçimle, bu tasvirin uyuşup uyuşmadığını görmek ve sınırların nereye uzanabildiği keşfetmektir. İkincisi; çeşitli bilimler içinde yer alan özel kavramların araştırılması ve tek tek kuramların analizi ile ilgilidir. Üçüncüsü bilim insanlarının eserlerinde fazla kullanılmayan kavramların analizlerini içermektedir. Bilimin doğasına ilişkin birbirinden farklı bu yaklaşımlarda bir ortak nokta arandığında, karşılaşılacak olan “bilimsel açıklama” kavramının bizzat kendisi olacaktır. “Bilimsel Açıklama”nın doğasına ilişkin araştırmanın da temel iki nedeni olduğu söylenebilir: (1) Açıklamalardan, evrenin nasıl işlediğini bilmemizi ve bu işleyişi bilmenin de çevremizi kendi amaçlarımıza ulaştıracak şekilde manipüle etme gücü sağladığına ilişkin beklenti. (2) Hedeflerimizi gerçekleştirmek için gerekli araçların sağlanması noktasında tatmin edici açıklamalar üretmenin en iyi yolunun “bilim” olduğuna dair düşünce. Bu bağlamda bilimsel bilginin ne olduğu değil bilimsel açıklamanın ne olduğu önem kazanmaktadır. Bilimsel açıklama üzerine yapılan bu vurgu, onu bilimsel ilerleme için yeterli bir ölçüt haline getirir
