Michel Foucault’s Interpretation of Magritte and the Detachment (Separation) of Word and Object

Magritte’s most famous painting, The Treason of Images, focuses on the relations between the language (word), representation (image) and reality (object). As a surrealist artist, he enjoys philosophical investigations through his paintings especially on visual and verbal interactions. And Foucault explores this relationship between language and visual imagery. Within the works of these influential thinkers, the idea of word-object detachment manifests itself. In this article, I will try to concentrate on this problem, separation of word and object, and its philosophical implications. The ideas reveals from the paintings of Magritte will be interpreted as an approach that disassociates language from reality and this detachment will be delineated

Michel Foucault’nun Magritte Yorumu ve Sözcük Nesne Kopukluğu

Öz

Michel Foucault’nun Bu Bir Pipo Değildir adlı yapıtı, görsel bir temsil (imge) ve dilsel bir gösterge (sözcük) ile gerçeklik (nesne) arasında kurulan bağı Magritte’in yapıtları üzerinden bir sorunsal olarak ele almakta ve irdelemektedir. Bu kitabın kendisine temel aldığı resim de sürrealist sanatçı Magritte’in meşhur yapıtı İmgelerin İhaneti’dir. İmgelerin İhaneti örtük, fakat çarpıcı felsefi içerimleri olan bir tablo olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu bağlamda Foucault dil ve görsel imge arasındaki ilişkiyi analiz etmekte, Magritte’in yapıtlarına yaratıcı bir yorum getirmektedir. Bu iki önemli düşünürün işaret ettikleri sorunlar sözcük-nesne kopukluğu fikrini ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Bu makalede sözcük ve nesnenin birbirinden ayrılması sorunu ele alınacak, sözcük-nesne kopukluğunun anlamı üzerinde durulacak ve dilin gerçeklikten koparıldığı (kurtarıldığı) bir yaklaşımın ana hatları çizilecektir
