THE VARIATIONS IN FATTY ACIDS COMPOSITION OF OVARIES AND TESTIS DURING GONAD MATURATION OF PIKEPERCH (Sander iucioperca)

Öz

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine variations in total lipid, total fatty acid and fatty acid composition. of ovaries and testis with respect to the gonad maturation of pikeperch in Egirdir lake. Gonads were taken from fishes in November (a period of initiation of gonad maturation) and in March (a period of completion of gonad maturation). The increases in total lipid content were insignificant for testis (P>O.05) but significant for ovaries (P<O.05) In November and March. Total fatty acids constituted more than half of total lipid in both ovaries and testis. Palmitic (16:0), oleic (18:1), docosahexaenoic(22:6n-3), eicosapentaenoic(20:5n-3) and arachidonic(20:4n-6) acids were the most abundant fatty acids present in gonads. The ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) were remarkably high in March compared with that of PUFA in November. It was concluded that a significant amount of PUFA is required for gonad maturation of pikeperch.

Öz

Bu cahsmanm amaci: Egirdir Golu'nde yasayan sudaklann gonad gelisirni ile ilgili olarak ovaryum ve testislerinin toplam lipid, toplam yag asidi ve yag asidi bilesimlerindeki degisimlerin incelenmesidir. Gonadlar, gelisirnin basladrgi Kasun ve gelisirrun tarnamlandrgi Mart aylannda cahsrlrrusnr, Kasim ve Mart aylannda toplam lipid icerigindeki arns testisler icin onernsiz (P>o.05), ovaryumlar icin onernli (P<O.05) bulunrnustur. Hem ovaryum hem de testislerde toplam lipid iceriginin yansmdan fazlasim toplam yag asitleri olusturmustur. Gonadlarda palmitik (16:0), oleik (18: I), dokosaheksaenoik (22:6n-3), okosapentaenoik (20:5n-3) ve arasidonik (20:4n-6) asitler en cok bulunan yag asitleridir. Coklu doyrnarrus yag asitleri (PUFA) oram Mart aymda Kasun ayma gore onernli de recede yuksek bulunrnustur. Sudaklann gonad olgunlastirmasr icin PUFA lere onernli derecede ihtiyac duydugu sonucuna vanlrrusnr.
